Safety Starter Plus is a custom digital health and safety program created for entrepreneurs who are starting up or growing, and hire employees. It is designed to be used to train employees on health and safety policies, rights and responsibilities, job-specific hazards, and safe work practices.

Safety Starter Plus includes basic requirements under the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act.

Plus, we include common job-specific hazards and safe work practices that apply to your business.

Almost all small businesses in Ontario are covered by the Occupational Health and Safety Act, but there are some exceptions where the Act does not apply or has limitations, such as: 

• A self-employed person that does not hire any workers (including co-op students).
• Farms operated by a self-employed person, without any workers.
• Businesses under federal jurisdiction are covered under the Canada Labour Code.

Most entrepreneurs in Ontario that hire 1-5 workers are required by law to provide the following:

• Basic Health and Safety Awareness Training for all workers and supervisors (rights and responsibilities under the Occupational Health and Safety Act)
• Emergency procedures, first aid kit, and hazard/incident reporting procedures
• Mandatory postings posted in the workplace or available to workers
• Job-specific hazard awareness, safe work practices, or training

Most entrepreneurs in Ontario that hire 6-19 workers are required by law to provide the following:

• Basic Health and Safety Awareness Training for all workers and supervisors (rights and responsibilities under the Occupational Health and Safety Act)
• Emergency procedures, first aid kit, and hazard/incident reporting procedures

• Workplace violence policy
• Workplace harassment policy 
• Worker Health and Safety Representative
• Mandatory postings posted in the workplace or available to workers
• Job-specific hazard awareness, safe work practices, or training
